* Leader Basics

The Leaders Basics are scheduled for ongoings classes during District Roundtable Meetings every 2nd Thursday of each month.

* Wood Badge for the 21st Century

The next Catalina Council Wood Badge Course will be September 3-8, 2007.

This advanced training for Adult Scout Leaders is open to Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing adult leaders!


* Boy Scout Junior Leader Training

There will NOT be a NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training - formerly called JLTC) course in 2007.
It will be back in the summer of 2008.
This week-long training for Boy Scout junior leaders is held at one of our Council camps. This is an excellent opportunity for your older Scouts to learn and practice key leadership skills.

* Trainer Development Conference

This training is for District Training Team members and others who will be training other leaders. Courses are typically held in the Spring and Fall each year.

* Safety Afloat / Safe Swim Defense

From the Guide to Safe Scouting:
Before a BSA group may engage in swimming activities of any kind, a minimum of one adult leader must complete Safe Swim Defense training, ... and agree to use the eight defenses in this plan.
Check your District's Training Calendar for scheduled Safety Afloat / Safe Swim Defense sessions. This training is also available at Summer Camp.

* Rock Climbing Instructors Courses

From the Guide to Safe Scouting:
  On a climbing activity, your group must have a Qualified Climbing Instructor.
A qualified rock climbing instructor who is at least 21 years of age must supervise all BSA climbing/rappelling activities. A currently trained BSA climbing director or instructor is highly recommended. Contact your local council or regional service center to locate a qualified individual. The climbing instructor has successfully completed a minimum of 10 hours of instructor training for climbing/rappelling from a nationally or regionally recognized organization, a climbing school, a college-level climbing/rappelling course, or is a qualified BSA climbing instructor.

* COPE Instructors Course

This course is open to anyone age 18 and older. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to aid in the safe instruction of all COPE programs. COPE must be supervised by a National Camp School COPE director and a trained COPE instructor.

BSA Lifeguard Patch

* BSA Lifeguard

What: BSA Lifeguard is designed to help provide troops with qualified supervision for aquatics outings.
When: Courses will be offered in the early spring and fall. We'll post the dates and information as they are available.

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be age 14 or older
  • Able to swim 400 yardsyards, including the following strokes: elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and either the crawl or trudgen.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Canoeing or Rowing Merit Badge.
  • Must be able to surface dive to the bottom of 12 feet of water.

* BSA Lifeguard Counselor

What: BSA Lifeguard Counselor is designed to train adults to become Lifeguard instructors and go back and train their youth as lifeguards
Who: Adult Scouters 21 and older
When: Courses will be offered in the early spring and fall. We'll post the dates and information as they are available

  • Current BSA Lifeguard or equivalent - or take the BSA Lifeguard Course above
