RECHARTER!

During the next several months your Old Pueblo Unit Commissioners and/or District Executives will be visiting your unit to deliver your Rechartering  Packets. Hopefully, you have been turning in your youth scout and adult leader applications so that they can be recorded in our council system. This will make rechartering much easier and faster for you!

If you are a Cub Scout unit there is a special incentive program for your unit.  The Old Pueblo District will be giving FREE pinewood derby cars to the returning Cub Scouts and Webelos in the top five packs that recruit the most boys and the top five packs with the highest membership percentage increase. WHY Rechartering is Important to your UNIT!

Charter renewal or "rechartering" is one of the most important events in the year for your unit.

Chartered organizations, such as churches, service clubs and other community groups, are granted charter status by the Boy Scouts of America. This allows an organization to share the Scouting program for community outreach and to help the organization meet the needs of their local youth.

Chartered organizations partner with a local Scout council to provide the support necessary for unit operations. When an organization adopts Scouting as part of its youth and community outreach program, a committee is formed and leadership is selected.

The committee members and leaders help to organize and operate the unit in conjunction with the organization's special needs or desired outcomes.

The Catalina Council provides the chartered organization with program materials, literature, outdoor camping facilities, leadership training, assistance in recruiting members, liability insurance, record keeping and supplies such as uniforms, insignia and awards.

Chartered organizations are issued a charter, effective for one year, to operate a pack, troop or crew. The charter year is not necessarily the same as the calendar year or program year. A few months prior to the charter expiration date, the district executive, unit commissioners, unit committee members and leaders all take a role in the preparation and execution of the rechartering process.

During the recharter event, the following is reviewed:

Membership inventory and inspection unit operations, including membership, program, advancement, outdoor activities, training status of leaders, your unit budget plan,  identification of your unit needs - committee members may report on their specific areas of responsibility and make recommendations for improvement and be sure to check to see if the your unit qualifies for the Quality Unit Award.
