Tour Permit Procedures
Local Tour Permit (Print on legal size (8.5x14) paper)
National Tour Permit (Print on legal size (8.5x14) paper)
FAXED TOUR PERMITS: Tour permits sent from shared fax and phone lines should be left on fax mode until confirmation is received. If this is not possible let the office know that your fax will be left on during specific times to make sure that a long distance call is not necessary before approval can be sent.
SIGNATURES: Signatures on tour permit must be from two registered adults, one of which is a member of the Unit committee. These signatures are an agreement of responsibility based upon the rules and regulations of the permit and BSA.
Hint: When you sign another person's name you are assuming that their legal responsibility will be agreed upon in the event of an accident. Are you sure that you want someone else signing your name to a legal contract?
The best place to fill out tour permits correctly and get the correct signatures is at your committee meeting, and this should be a regular item on the agenda.
ATTENTION PROCRASTINATORS: If you hand-deliver your permit, make sure that all information and signatures are correct. However, if you are faxing your permit please do not wait until the day of the event. If our staff is busy with customers or the fax lines are busy, your fax may not be attended to in a timely manner. Remember, if you leave without the authorized tour permit and permit number, you are traveling without legal representation in the event of an accident.
Hint: Before you fax your tour permit, make sure that you have given both a contact phone number and the fax number to which the permit will be sent.
LEGAL RESPONSIBlLITY: All drivers must give tour leader required information which is requested on this form, with no exceptions. It is state law and a requirement of BSA that withholding this information makes the tour permit void.
Hint: Collecting driver information once a year from all licensed drivers and submitting a list to your local council office is accepted. If new drivers are added, these additions must appear on the tour permit. The best time to create your authorized driver list is at recharter time.
GUIDE TO SAFE SCOUTING - WHY? The Health and Saftey Guide is a new revision. Safety rules and regulations are changed regularly as new situations occur that require safety for our youth. Always check for special permits as well as AGE APPROPRIATE ACTIVITIES.
Hint: Be sure to read the part on the back of your tour permit titled "OUR PLEDGE OF PERFORMANCE." You are responsible for our youth and their safe return.
