WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING
Are you ready for the worst?
Wilderness First Aid/CPR is a practical, 16 hour course designed to meet the needs of those who go into areas that are beyond the reach of urban EMS. This course prepares you to recognize and avoid wilderness hazard. It will offer you hands-on first aid training for different outdoor activities that you and your scouts will be involved in. You will work with common and traditional items as well as with whatever equipment you have or can improvise.
First Aid/CPR is a practical, 8 hour course designed as an introduction and suited for common urban and household emergencies and where advanced medical help is 15 minutes or less away. You will be working with traditional methods.
Wilderness First Aid/CPR is required for those units taking a trek to the Philmont Scout Reservation and Northern Tier while First Aid and CPR is required for Sea Base. This course is recommended for anyone who is venturing into the back country for camping, hiking, canoeing, or other high adventure outings like scuba and rock climbing. Wilderness First Aid, First Aid and CPR Certifications are through the Emergency Care and Safety Institute and are valid for 2 years.
This course is open to all registered Scouts and Scouters. Youth participants must be at least 15 years old and have earned their 1st Class Rank and/or First Aid Merit Badge, along with their Scoutmaster’s recommendation to take the course.
